NEWS Layoffs in MOU #5 (2-6-2010) The CAO has issued a report asking the City Council to approve layoffs for 1000 General Funded Employees. The City Council voted to study the issue and revisit it in 30 days. On 2-4-10 the Mayor issued an Executive Directive calling for employees on the layoff list to be transferred to Proprietary or Special Funded Departments by 2-15-10. The MCIA is working closely with LADBS and the Personnel Department to find positions for the 17 LADBS Inspectors subject to layoffs. We are working as hard as we can so that no member of MOU 5 loses their job. For Mayor's Directive - click here Contract Administration Furlough Update (2-1-2010) Con Ad Inspectors were presented with a furlough schedule and plan on 1-29-10. The MCIA was not asked for any input. We were not shown a copy prior to it being released.The MCIA has not approved or concurred with this plan. We are studying the legality of this plan at this time. The MCIA has not entered into any agreement concerning furloughs at this time, nor received a comprehensive written plan from Con Ad. The MCIA has stated to both John Reamer and Larry Williams that 16 hours per pay period is the maximum amount allowed by the CAO's memo. The CAO has reminded Con Ad of this requirement. It has also been reported that Con Ad inspectors will be required to have 26 furlough days, instead of 22 as indicated on the memo. This is also not true. Implementation of Furloughs for MOU#5 (1-19-2010) The CAO has informed the MCIA and affected departments that furloughs will start this week. According to the memo, MOU 5 members will receive 8 furlough hours per week for the next 22 weeks. As per a clarification by the CAO, you could receive more than 8 hours in a week, but the number of furlough hours per pay period shall not exceed 16 hours.The actual furlough schedule is being worked out by each department. Your department will inform you of the new schedule, not the MCIA. Your furlough schedule is required to be the same for every pay period. If your schedule is being changed every pay period please contact the MCIA. Some positions and departments will be exempt from furloughs, and this is being clarified at this time. Benefits will not be affected by the furloughs. Benefits are affected if compensated hours drop below 40 in a pay period. New information will be posted when we receive it. The CAO's Offfice has informed the MCIA that no determination has been reached on the furlough start date or the number of hours per payperiod. MCIA Election Results
(1-7-2010) The following members were elected to the MCIA Board of Directors for a two year term: Jim Dunn, Ron Jackson, Anthony Vann, Javier Alipio, Jim Moore, Karin Izumi, Calvin Oglesby, and Jorge Alcantar.
After the seating of the new Board, the Executive Board members were selected: President - Johnny Yutronich 1st Vice Pres - Jim Moore 2nd Vice Pres - Calvin Oglesby Secretary - Bob Bland Treasurer - Reid Daub

(1-7-2010) The Controller's Office is working on the software needed to implement the raises. They should occur in the first week in February. The retro check calculations are also being worked out, but we have not been given a date for completion. There has been no decision on when furloughs will begin, or the number of days. We will inform you as soon as we receive confirmation of the dates and numbers. Contract Modification Vote Results Thanks to our members for their high participation in response to the contract modification vote. 55% of MOU#5 members sent in their ballots. An overwhelming majority chose to keep our existing contract. The vote was 489 to keep the existing contract, and 72 to accept the modified contract proposal. The results have been delivered to the Mayor and CAO. The revised MCIA Director's Election ballots must be delivered to the MCIA office by December 26th. The initial Director's Election ballots mailed to the membership will be voided. For your Directors vote to count you must use the revised ballot.
